this is so frustrating, when i try to write a song the lyrics come out like nothing but i cant write the music. maybe its because i dont really play any instruments but ive been playing on garage band for awhile and some of the songs are pretty good. its so annoying i just want to put the lyrics to music.

(from our pals at the BAGRC)

Please pass this information to any girls who might be interested in our brand new after school program to be held in downtown Oakland at the Malonga Center for the Arts. The new deadline for applications is Monday December 8th, 2008. All the information is below:

Girls Rock After School Program (G.R.A.S.P.) is now accepting applications!

Bay Area Girls Rock Camp is launching an after school program in January! Girls Rock After School Program (G.R.A.S.P.) is now accepting applications from girls ages 8-18. The program will be held one day per week for ten weeks (Tuesdays ages 8-12; Thursdays ages 13-18) from 4:00-6:30pm at the Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts in downtown Oakland. Girls will learn an instrument of her choice for one hour, then have band practice for an hour, with time in between for a snack. The instrument lessons we offer are Guitar, Bass, Drums, Vocals, and Keyboard. During band practice, girls will work collaboratively on writing original songs with the help of a trained instructor. All of our instructors are female musicians, many of whom worked at the summer camp. At the end of the ten weeks, the girls will perform their songs at a showcase for family, friends, and community members.

What: Girls Rock After School Program (a program of the non-profit organization Bay Area Girls Rock Camp)
When: January 6 - March 14, 2009
Where: Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts; 1428 Alice St.; Oakland, CA 94612
Cost: $300 (financial aid available and it's easy to apply)

We encourage girls from diverse backgrounds in terms of race, ethnicity, class, and ability to apply. Full and partial scholarships are available.

To apply, please download an application from our website at www.bayareagirlsrockcamp.org or email anna@bayareagirlsrockcamp.org with your request and we will send one to you.

If you have any questions, please email anna@bayareagirlsrockcamp.org or call 510-394-8647.
