Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls 2008

I just returned from my fourth Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls, and I had as much fun and learned as many new things as I did the first time I attended.
What I loved:
- Being an intern was super fun. Moving drum sets wasn't as hard as I though it would be, and I got to know other interns, staff, and volunteers better.
- My intern band, Rockasaurus, created such an amazing song that I was psyched about it all week.
- I used to work at a restaurant in Oklahoma City as a hostess. One day, I sat a woman who asked me if I was the girl in the Gazette article about Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls. We chatted about it, and lo and behold, she was volunteering at camp this week! Not only is she super nice, she can really play guitar and has a beautiful singing voice.
- My hostperson, Vera, is rad! She's a DJ and a drummer. It was fun to share a room with the other intern she was hosting, like a weeklong sleepover. And we went to the nickel arcade, took a tour of her old high school, and played a board game called Save the White Unicorn. 'Nuff said.
- It was great to see old friends again, like Anna, D'arby, Gilly, Fay, and Janie. I'm a pretty sentimental person.
- I also liked meeting new people like Gina, Kristina, Courtney, Naomi, and Carter.
- MCing with DJ Rex Bex was a huge rush! It was like a concert and a dance party all in one.
- Vera and Niki took Gina and me to Vita, where there's amazing tempeh chicken-fried steak. I want to eat there every day for the rest of my life.

We're gonna be attending several screenings in the next couple weeks after a bit of a lull, so be sure to come out and see us! First of all, Shane is going to Chicago to open the CineYouth Film Festival on June 21. And then we'll both be at the Temescal Outdoor Cinema in Oakland for a FREE outdoor screening with music on June 26. And then finally Arne will hit Albany NY the weekend of June 28 for a screening and discussion at The Linda.
